Life Safety Systems & Integration with Building Systems

This presentation will cover Life Safety Systems (Fire Alarm, Smoke Control & Fire Sprinklers) concepts, design, installation, commissioning, the importance of having a qualified person spearhead the overall Life Safety System design/construction coordination and most important, the annual testing and maintenance of these systems. We will investigate the integration of life safety with other building systems. One of the most common temptations is to have the BAS perform the Smoke Control sequences but we will explain why this should be avoided at all costs. We will also cover how these concepts have changed with the new “I” codes and how different jurisdictions are accepting or amending the “I” codes, including the newest Denver amendments. Since most of the Life Safety Systems are existing, it is important to understand how tenant improvements and BAS/FAS retrofits may affect these systems and what safeguards can be implemented to assure occupant safety.

Greg Bradshaw, CEM, owner of Bradshaw Building Solutions, has 49 years experience in the construction industry, the last 39 years focusing on commissioning, re-commissioning, building automation systems, energy management, energy retrofits and smoke control systems.
